HOW USE THE BSR SEMANTIC TOOL

(please note Internet Explorer 5 or 6 is required to make queries)

By clicking on "Query in english" in the menu bar you obtain a new page in order to select the directories you want to work with for your queries. At the bottom of the page you press the send button and a new query page appear. (Note : if you press the send button without selecting any directories, the queries will be done only against all directories in parallel, - no other choice will be available-)

This new page is divided in two parts:

On the top of this page, under "directories" there is a window to make a new selection. You can select "ALL" or a specific directory among the proposed list (this list is the one you have selected on the previous page). Use the lift button if you can not see all the proposed directories.

If you select a specific directory, the query is going to be performed only against this directory. If you select "ALL", the query is performed against all directories you have selected on the previous page.

Also on the top of this page, under "threshold" there is a window to choose the selectivity of your query.

If you select 100% you are going to obtain only answers very close to what you have entered (and possibly no answer at all). By choosing 90% or 80% or less, you will have more answers, with some of them not so close. Il you select "---" you will obtain the maximum number of answer.

Also on the top of this page, you could select "contact us" in order to send a message and ask a question or make a comment. You can also select "feedback" in order to load a form to give your views on the tool.

Also on the top of this page, the long blank window is the place where you have to enter your request. You can enter an English name or an English sentence.

By clicking on the "search button" you obtain the answers.

The BSR TOOL is going to search the answers using its  semantic engine. It searches semantic links between what you have entered and the entries of your specified directory(ies). For its semantic search, BSR Tool take in account the name and the definition of each entries. It analyses semantically the phrase or nouns you have entered and it doesn't look for key words; (on the contrary of main search engine on the web; see "semantic engine characteristics" in the menu).

You may obtain "no answer" if the BSR Tool is unable to find a semantic link between what you have entered and the selected directories entries (or if the selectivity of the search you have chosen is too high).

On the first line, you obtain the number of found answers. This number depends also of the selectivity threshold you have chosen (see above). The maximum displayed answers is 1000.

Then the answers are displayed line by line. For each answer you have:

First line : In bracket, a number indicating the "scoring" of the answer. "100%" means exact match or very close, less than "100%" indicates an entry which is not strongly semantically linked  with what you have entered.
On the same line, in parenthesis, the entry name (or the entry definition) that have been found by the BSR TOOL.
Next line, the name of the directory, and the concatenated entry ID. (The directory is the directory where the found entry come from).
On the same line, the name, synonym (if some) and the definition of the found entry. (Note: some entry names have been changed by adding "spaces", for core_component, BSUs... in order to have recognisable name for the semantic engine. For example "DeliveryDate" has been changed in "Delivery Date").

You can also make queries in French and obtain English answers. For that you have to click on  "Query in french".

BSR Tool also works all in French (queries and answers), but for the time being, French directories are not uploaded so this type of query is not available.
